About NAAG
October Is National Cyber Security Awareness Month
The Internet has dramatically changed our lives, and in most cases, it has enhanced our lives, both personally and in the workplace. It has also, however, provided new ground for predators and other evil-doers. I join my fellow Attorneys General in urging you to take appropriate safety measures to prevent falling victim to these predators.
This October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and it reminds us to think about how we behave online and whether it is making us vulnerable to predators. Staying safe online doesn’t require you to be a computer expert, nor does it require a lot of money. A few common sense steps will protect you, your family and your business from online threats.
- Protect your computer by installing anti-virus software and firewalls, both of which are inexpensive. Once installed, keep them up-to-date. New threats are discovered daily, and keeping them current is one of the best ways to prevent an attack.
- Protect your identity by guarding your personal information.
- Protect your children by talking to them about the risks children face on the Internet and about good Internet safety.
- Protect your bank accounts by changing your password on a regular basis. Be aware of scam e-mails; no legitimate bank will request your account information by e-mail.
Let’s practice good cyber security a routine all the time, not just in October,
